Make money. Make your own schedule. Make a difference.
Lotus Engagement LLC is looking for outgoing, motivated people to collect signatures on ballot initiative petitions across Colorado this summer. You'll talk to voters, help get important measures in front of the public, and earn based on your results — all on your own time.
This is real civic engagement work. Ballot initiatives are one of the most direct ways everyday people shape policy, and petition circulators are what make the process possible. If you care about democratic participation, want to build professional communication skills, and like the idea of earning great money while working outside on your own terms — this opportunity is for you.
What you'll do:
- Talk to voters in public spaces — farmers' markets, parks, shopping centers, community events, college campuses — and ask them to sign petitions for upcoming Colorado ballot measures
- Clearly and accurately explain the purpose of each petition to potential signers
- Collect signatures on official petition sheets
- Submit completed petition sheets on a weekly basis
What makes this opportunity stand out:
- Uncapped earning potential. You're paid $3+ per signature, per petition. Many first-time circulators earn $25–$50/hour; experienced circulators regularly exceed $75/hour. If a voter signs multiple petitions, each signature counts — a single interaction can be worth $15–$25+
- Total schedule flexibility. Work mornings, evenings, weekends — whatever fits your life. There are no required shifts and no minimum hours
- No circulating experience necessary. Before you start, you'll complete a short online training course through the Colorado Secretary of State's office (about 30–45 minutes) and be registered as an approved circulator. We'll walk you through the entire process. If you're comfortable starting conversations with strangers, you have the core skill — we'll handle the rest
- Weekly pay. Compensation is paid weekly based on valid signatures submitted
- Team or solo — your choice. Want to work alongside other circulators? We can connect you with a team. Prefer to work independently? That works too
Skills you'll build:
- Persuasive communication and public speaking
- Resilience and objection handling
- Self-management and entrepreneurial discipline
- Civic process knowledge and political literacy
- Cross-cultural engagement and active listening
Who thrives in this role:
- People who are social, energetic, and comfortable approaching strangers
- Self-starters who can manage their own time without supervision
- Students in political science, communications, sociology, environmental studies, public policy, or related fields (all majors welcome)
- Anyone motivated by results-based pay and the freedom to control their own earnings
- People who care about civic engagement and want hands-on experience in the political process
Requirements:
- Must be a United States citizen and at least 18 years of age (required by Colorado law)
- Must complete the Colorado Secretary of State's online circulator training prior to collecting signatures (free, approximately 30–45 minutes)
- Must be registered and approved as a circulator through the Secretary of State's office before beginning work (Lotus Engagement will coordinate this process; please allow up to 10 business days for approval)
- Comfortable working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- Reliable transportation to travel to public gathering locations of your choosing
- A working phone for coordination
- Able to stand and walk for extended periods while carrying a clipboard
About the opportunity structure:
This is an independent contractor (1099) engagement, not an employment position. As a contractor, you control when, where, and how you work. Compensation is per signature and will be reported on IRS Form 1099-NEC. You are responsible for your own taxes, transportation, and expenses. You maintain the right to provide services to other clients during the engagement period. No employee benefits (health insurance, PTO, retirement) are provided.
